As you read through this, you will see that the staff at the South County Family YMCA has developed a wide variety of programs and activities to meet and exceed the needs of your family. Included are the traditional day camp programs as well as a variety of sports clinics, aquatic programs geared to the beginner through advanced swimmer, teen activities, wellness programs for all, many gymnastics and cheerleading camps, and instructional programs. The staff at the YMCA pledges to ensure all children will have a safe and enjoyable experience at the “Y”. Registration Instructions:

  1. Online: Click here to register and pay online. You must download the Summer Camper Information Card and return to the appropriate summer camp director so your child's information is on file..
  2. In-person: Come to the YMCA front desk, Venice or Englewood Branches, fill out the appropriate Venice Registration Form or Englewood Registraion Form and the Summer Camper Information Card and pay by check, cash or credit card (Mastercard/Visa/Discover).
  3. Mail: Download both the Venice Registration Form or Englewood Registration Form and the Summer Camper Information Card and mail with check to:

Payment Information:

Family and Single Parent Family Members qualify for the member rate for summer programs. A special Family Summer Membership is also offered.

  • $211 Family Membership valid May 1 - August 31, 2011
  • $168 Family Membership valid June 1 - August 31, 2011

Any applicable one-time registration fee is required at time of registration.

All fees are non-refundable.

 

The following payment options are available:

  • Full payment upon registration.
  • First two weeks of program fee. Weekly fees thereafter must be made by the Wednesday prior to the upcoming week. Payments received after Wednesday will incur a $25 late fee.
  • First two weeks of program fee, then automatic electronic draft on each Friday prior to the upcoming next selected week. Drafts are available through debit, credit card, or, checking account. For this option please provide card information or voided check upon registration.

Scholarship Assistance:

Financial Assistance is available for those in need. To apply, please obtain the scholarship application at the YMCAs or download at www.southcountyfamilymca.com. Please allow two weeks for processing.

Traditional Day Camp (V) (E)

At the South County Family YMCA’s summer day camp, your child is invited to share in fun experiences while making memories that will last a lifetime! All children have the opportunity to try new activities ranging from Archery to Zoo Field Trips, literally from A-Z! These summer days include arts & crafts and outdoor activites. Each child has the option to swim everyday. Our Aquatics staff offers specialized swim lessons to our campers during camp time at a great discount! Each afternoon, campers have the chance to choose a special activity to make their camp day amazing!  We have fun-filled field trips every week - from enjoying our local County and State Parks to visiting attractions from Cape Coral to Tampa.  Our campers will explore, explore, explore!

Venice Branch - Camp Hanchey

  • Ages: 5 years – 8th grade

Englewood Branch - Day Camp

  • Ages: completed Kindergarten - 8th grade

  • Cost: $65 per week ymca members; $85 per week non-members

Children are placed in age-appropriate groups by grade level.  Children are encouraged to be at camp by 9:00 am.   

 

Counselor In Training (CIT) (V)

A select group of teens (13-15 years old) are chosen to train as CIT’s. All CIT’s must apply and interview with camp staff.  They will be chosen based on their ability to learn work ethics and job skills. Our goal is to teach YMCA Core Values, Character Development, basic water safety, CPR and First Aid, and job skills.  YMCA staff and campers help build character in the leaders of tomorrow! CIT’s also participate in fun field trips with other campers their age once per week. After their full training period, the CIT’s work with Senior Camp Counselors and their groups, under the supervision of the CIT group leaders. Community service hours for Bright Future and National Honor Society are available for those participants who qualify.

All CITs must participate in two weeks of training prior to working with groups.Participants may not attend Camp Hanchey as a CIT unless they attend training session.

Skateboard Clinic (V)

Offered to campers from Camp Hanchey and Sports Camp for an additional fee.

End of Summer Trips (V) (E)

Enjoy this special Annual Field Trip with your YMCA camp friends for a fun filled day of rides, park animals, and shows.

Gymnastics, Rock Climbing, Cheerleading & Dance

The Venice Branch of the South County Family YMCA is proud to host a 10,000 square foot, air-conditioned center that houses the gymnastics, cheerleading, and rock climbing summer programs.  Dance takes place in the 2 studios adjacent to the gymnastics center.

The staff at the YMCA has worked hard to provide a safe, fun, and stimulating environment for our summer programs.  This is mirrored through the teaching philosophy that every participant is given the opportunity to reach his or her potential though professional instruction, respect for safety, and a positive atmosphere.  All our instructors are CPR/First Aid certified.

Half day participants will be split up into groups based on age and skill level.  Full day campers will be split up into Morning or Afternoon groups based on numbers and ability, then split into groups based on age and skill.

All FULL DAY campers may participate in pizza lunch on Wednesdays & Subway lunch on Fridays for an additional fee.  A “brown bag” lunch is available daily through the YMCA for $4.00.

Gymnastics Camp (V)

Many aspects of gymnastics are included in these fun-filled days of camp.  Professional instruction on gymnastics apparatus includes:

(9) balance beams, Foam Pit, Rope Swing, Elite Uneven Bars, Progressive Skill Equipment, Vault Table, Star Bar System, (3) Spring Tumbling Floors, (2) “Tumbl Traks”, High Bar, Bounce House

Proper gymnastics attire is required: Girls wear a leotard with hair pulled back tightly.  Boys wear a t-shirt or tank top and shorts with an elastic waist.  Absolutely NO jeans and/or shorts with zippers.  (Gymnastics apparel such as leotards, shorts, and shirts available in pro-shop located in the gymnastics/dance area.)

FULL DAY CAMP

  • Hours:  Monday - Friday 9:00-5:00  (free early drop-off at 7:00 and late pick-up until 6:00)

Rock Climbing Camp (V)

Many aspects of rock climbing are introduced and mastered during this week long camp.  Harness safety, vertical and horizontal climbing techniques, belaying, repelling, and team building skills will all be introduced and mastered.  Every Thursday campers will take a field trip to the YMCA Alpine Tower at the Englewood Branch.  Return time 4:30 pm.

Proper climbing attire is required.  Girls and boys wear a t-shirt or tank top and shorts with elastic waist.  Absolutely NO jeans and shorts with zippers and buttons.  Rock climbing shoes or scuba type beach shoes recommended.  Having one’s own harness is beneficial.  See www.REI.com to order harness.

Preschoolers in Motion Camp (V)

This camp is for 3, 4 & 5 year olds.  With the use of the gymnastics center and its instructors, these young campers will be exercising through gymnastics & dance, playing movement games, and working on fine motor skills.  Child MUST be potty-trained.

Cheerleading Camp (V)

This camp teaches the athleticism of the sport of cheerleading while having fun in a stimulating environment.  Cheerleading instructors cover levels from beginner to advanced tumbling, stunting and jumps.  A dance, full-length cheers and chants will be taught to “blow” the crowd away.                

Participants will be split up into groups based on age & skill level.  Skills taught will be based on the experience and level of individual.

Proper cheer attire is required: Girls wear a t-shirt tucked into cheer shorts with socks and white cheer shoes. Hair must be pulled back tightly out of the face.  Boys wear t-shirt or tank top and shorts with elastics waist.  Absolutely NO jeans and/or shorts with zippers and buttons.

Dance Camp (V)

Many aspects of dance are included in these fun-filled days of camp.  Professional instruction in techniques such as ballet, hip-hop & jazz.

Proper Dance Shoes required: ballet shoes and hip-hop shoes

Proper dance attire is required: Girls wear leotards and tights.  Hair must be pulled back tightly, out of the face.  (Leotards can be purchased in pro-shop located in the gymnastics/dance area.)

Parent and Tot Classes (V)

This is a special program whereby parent and child (18 - 36 months) work together to build locomotor skills and flexibility in a gymnastics environment.  Parents help their children through obstacle courses and basic moves on gymnastics equipment.

Pre-Gym Classes (V)

These classes are designed to help boys and girls develop coordination and physical fitness through basic locomotor and gymnastics skills.  Special activities, along with the use of gymnastics equipment will be geared for each age group.  (Any age exceptions must be approved by the gymnastics director.)

A variety of sports and activities are offered during our sports camp.  They include: basketball, volleyball, flag football, baseball, soccer, swimming, whiffleball, floor hockey, racquetball, whisperball, and more.  There will be one field trip offered each week.   Children are required to be at camp by 9 am.

Introduction and instruction in various team sports will be offered including Basketball, Baseball, Football and Soccer. Daily swimming and camp games will also be included.

Youth Sailing Camp (E)

Come learn to sail. Participants will learn entry level sailing under the direction of the Englewood Sailing Association. Space is limited to 18 participants. All participants need to be able to swim and will need to bring sunscreen and a lunch daily.

Venice Branch

Clinic includes drill stations to improve dribbling, shooting, passing, rebounding and defense. This camp also features three on three half court, and five on five full court games.

The boys’ camp will be led by current Venice High School, Boy’s  Varsity Head Coach, James Slaton and past and current players.

The girls’ camp will be led by current Venice High School, Girl’s Varsity Head Coach, John Flynn and past and current players.

Camp will consist of drill stations to improve participant’s defense, shooting, rebounding, passing and dribbling skills. Participants will also play 5 on 5 games and enjoy various skill contests. Camp will be led by Sean Huber, head varsity basketball coach at Lemon Bay High School. Players need to wear appropriate court shoes.

Youth Basketball Summer League (V)

Program will consist of 1 one-hour practice each week with emphasis placed on the training and development of every facet of basketball.  You can count on getting great instruction from one of the members of our coaching staff.  5 v. 5 games will also be played on one additional day of the week.  All participants will receive a reversible jersey.

  • Ages: Completed 5th – 8th grade.
  • When: Practice two days per week.  Practice will begin the week of June 13. Season will run from June 27th through August 19th

Girls Volleyball Clinic (V) (E)

Instructional clinic features drills, stations, and games. Led by former Venice High School standout and college player Natalie Gaudreau.

Englewood Branch

Instructional camp led by Venetian Bay coach, Jeannette Moore. Clinic will consist of drills, stations, as well as teaching the strategies of team play. Players should wear knee pads.

Golf Clinic (V) (E)

Venice Branch

Instructional clinic will focus on developing driving and putting skills as well as learning course etiquette.  Might also be able to get out on the course and play a few holes at the beautiful Pelican Pointe Golf and Country Club.  Proper golf attire, please.  T-shirts or jeans will NOT be allowed on the course.  Pelican Pointe’s Head Teaching Pro, Travis Blauvelt, will instruct each camper.  Please bring your own clubs if you have them.

  • Location: Pelican Pointe Golf and Country Club.  Golfers will meet at the Y and return to the Y each day.

Camp will focus on developing putting and driving skills and learning course etiquette. Lunch will be served at the club house. No t-shirts or jeans will be allowed on the course; only proper golf attire is permitted.

Racquetball Clinic (V)

Introductory clinic teaches fundamental forehand and backhand shots, serving, footwork, game strategies, and rules of the game.  Please bring your own racquet and safety goggles if you have them.  Campers will be instructed by Y resident experts Lan Huynh, Karen Crownover, and others.

Wrestling Clinic (E)

Camp will consist of drills and skill exercises based on age level. Participants will be matched with opponent based on size. Camp will be led by Gary Jonseck, wrestled at Michigan State University, and Mike Schyck, wrestled at Ohio State. Both have been coaching at the high school level and running local clubs for years.

Non-Refundable Registration Fees: $25*

  • Week 10 will include a trip to Bush Gardens of Tampa; additional Fee of $50 / $15 for season pass holders
  • Session 1 is 6 weeks in length
  • Session 2 is 5 weeks and includes Busch Gardens Trip
  • *Includes 2011 Quest Camp T-Shirt that must be worn on Field Trips.
  • All weeks will include creative healthy snacks we prepare together, fun nutrition education and activities, arts and crafts, swimming, and field trips
  • Field Trips are contingent on weather and are subject to change at any time without notice
  • Quest participates in the CIT Program: Pre-requisites are completion of CIT Training Camp
  • All campers are required to bring athletic clothing & shoes as well as a reusable water bottle everyday

Week 1: Splash Quest June 7-10

Swimming, Kayaking, Wet ‘n’ Wild water games, and lots of water fun to keep cool in the hot sun.

Week 2: Wilderness Quest June 13-17

This is the ultimate wilderness camp for those new to the wild outdoors! Rockclimbing, wilderness survival skills, basic first aid, hiking, biking, outdoor games, and Alpine Tower climbing. All activities lead up to a Friday night overnight camping trip at the Englewood YMCA camping area. All campers must bring a parent and provide their own sleeping bag.

Week 3: Triathlon Quest June 20-24

We will be biking, swimming, and running a lot this week. Campers will be learning all the things needed to participate in a triathlon including bike safety and repair. On Friday, we will do an indoor/outdoor mini-triathlon and give out awards to all.

Week 4: Muscles in Motion Quest (Includes Preteen certification for 11 yr. olds) June 27-July 1

Instruction and use of strength training options including some machines, stretch bands, Bosu’s, hand weights, balance boards, and body bars. Campers will also be introduced to cardio, core, and flexibility training. They will also learn about the muscles and what is being used with each exercise.

Week 5: Fencing Quest July5-8 (Closed July 4th)

Intense Fencing training with Fencing Coach Werner Meudt. This camp will teach proper techniques for using the Foil, Épée, and Sabre. Campers will also participate in daily fencing matches with others in the camp. All equipment is provided.

Week 6: Community Service Quest July 11-15

We will be planning and implementing a community group project. Campers will also participate in team building and peer leadership activities.
